America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) issued the following statement on the introduction of H.R.5963, a bipartisan bill that would suspend the Health Insurance Tax (HIT) for 2020. The bill was introduced by Rep. Kristi Noem (R-SD), Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-IN), Rep. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), and Rep. Ami Bera (D-CA).
"Americans have been calling for more affordable coverage and care, and this bill delivers for them. Suspending the Health Insurance Tax will help to lower premiums for everyone, whether they get coverage through their jobs, buy their own coverage, or enroll in Medicare Advantage or Medicaid. We thank Representatives Noem, Walorski, Sinema, and Bera for their continued leadership in promoting affordability and availability of care for every American. We encourage our leaders in Congress to build on this positive step by completely repealing the tax, sustaining those savings for millions of people."
