Karnes County commissioners to consider health insurance renewal, construction projects

KARNES CITY – The Karnes County Commissioners Court will consider renewing employee health insurance benefits, advancing two Precinct 4 construction projects and establishing a salary grievance committee during its regular meeting Tuesday, June 23.

Among the agenda's major items is consideration of the county's fiscal year 2027 employee health insurance renewal with the Texas Association of Counties Health and Employee Benefits Pool (TAC HEBP). Commissioners will also discuss a county-specific incentive program for employee health benefits for the upcoming fiscal year.

The court is also expected to establish a Salary Grievance Committee in accordance with Texas Local Government Code Section 152.014.

Several items involve administrative actions related to a Texas Department of Agriculture grant. Commissioners will consider authorizing County Judge Wade J. Hedtke to execute contracts with Traylor & Associates Inc. for grant administration and environmental services and with Cope Engineering for engineering services. Both firms were previously selected by the county.

Construction projects in Precinct 4 are also slated for discussion. Commissioners will consider approving final construction documents for the Precinct 4 EMS Satellite Building and the Precinct 4 Service Center and Justice of the Peace Office Building. If approved, DRG Architects would be authorized to issue construction documents for competitive sealed proposals.

The court will also consider several budget-related requests from the Karnes County Clerk's Office, including re-establishing a mileage reimbursement account, transferring $1,000 from the conference expense budget to the mileage reimbursement account and reimbursing County Clerk Griselda Cantu for mileage expenses incurred during the current fiscal year.
