On a per-share basis, the Kansas City, Missouri-based company said it had profit of 69 cents.
The insurance company posted revenue of $112 million in the period.
Kansas City Life shares have climbed roughly 4 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has increased 25 percent in the last 12 months.
