On a per-share basis, the Kansas City, Missouri-based company said it had profit of 58 cents.
The insurance company posted revenue of $115.3 million in the period.
Kansas City Life shares have risen 3 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has climbed 25 percent in the last 12 months.
