John James ‘Largely Silent…on His Support for Trump’ and Hiding From Tough Questions on Scandals

LANSING, Michigan, Oct. 25 -- The Michigan Democratic Party issued the following news release:

The Detroit Free Press reported today that John James is still trying to hide his "2000%" support for President Trump from Michiganders and refusing to answer questions from the media about Trump or the ongoing investigations into his inappropriate conduct pressuring a foreign country to investigate a political opponent and undermine the 2020 election.

The Trump factor could also help explain why James -- who has been concentrating more on raising money than openly campaigning -- has been largely silent in recent months on the question of his support for Trump and House Democrats' impeachment inquiry and whether it was appropriate for the president to seek help from Ukraine and China that could potentially hurt a political rival, former Democratic Vice President Joe Biden.

James has no time to answer real questions, but apparently has all the time in the world to travel around the country courting far-right GOP mega-donors. Just this week, James was in Washington D.C. and New York City for fundraisers and spoke at a summit for a radical anti-choice group that shares his out of touch agenda on women's reproductive rights.

In addition to the Detroit Free Press' inquiry, James has repeatedly ducked questions about Trump:

* MLIVE: "James has remained silent on the President's conduct. James' campaign did not respond to a request for comment."

* CNBC: "James' campaign did not immediately respond to a request to comment on where the GOP candidate stands on impeachment."

* Metro Times: James "did not respond to Metro Times' repeated attempts to reach him for comment on the president's racist tweets."

"It's clear John James is more focused on pleasing the far-right billionaires funding his campaign than being independent and telling Michigan voters where he stands on important issues," said MDP Spokesperson Alex Japko. "James can try to hide his '2000%' support for Trump all he wants, but at some point he's going to have to come out of hiding and tell Michiganders where he stands."
