James Funded By Trump Donors Who Support Attacks on Michiganders’ Health Care, Restricting Reproductive Rights

LANSING, Michigan, Oct. 16 -- The Michigan Democratic Party issued the following news release:

All you have to do is follow the money to expose the positions that James has been hiding from Michigan:

"2000%" Support for Trump: James took $8,400 from a member of President Trump's Finance team, Judson Sapp, and his family. The event was hosted by Sapp in Florida. James also accepted Trump's "100%" endorsement in a fundraising email. James has tried to hide his close ties to Trump from Michigan, but his willingness to fundraise with Trump shows why the president is still James' "No. 1 ally" in Michigan.

The ACA is a "monstrosity": James took in $139,000 in earmarked donations from the Senate Conservative Fund, a huge supporter for a repeal of the Affordable Care Act. The organization promised to fund primary challenges to any sitting GOP Senator who failed to support repeal. James has also supported repealing the health law, which would increase costs and reduce coverage for Michiganders.

Anti-Choice, Even in Cases of Rape and Incest: James took $2,800 in earmarked donations from the Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund, a national anti-choice organization. James has likened abortion to "genocide" and opposes exceptions for cases of rape and incest.

Tax Giveaways for Billionaires "A Massive Christmas Gift": James took tens of thousands of dollars from ultra-rich donors like the DeVos family, hedge fund billionaires John Paulson and Paul Singer, and the billionaire Uihlein family. Unsurprisingly, James fully supported the Republican tax law, a huge tax giveaway to the wealthiest Americans and giant corporations that is exploding the national debt, calling it a "massive Christmas present."

"John James has tried to hide his toxic positions from Michigan since he entered the race, but if you follow the money, his far-right agenda is on full display," said MDP Spokesperson Alex Japko. "His mega-donors know James will follow through on his 2000% support for Trump, his endorsement of tax giveaways to the rich, and his out of touch attacks on Michiganders' health care and reproductive rights. James' number one priority is appealing to his far-right donors, even when it means taking fringe positions that put Michiganders at risk."
