Ill. Gov. Pritzker: Multi-Agency Resource Center to Open in McLean County for Residents Impacted by Storms, Flooding

Targeted News Service (Press Releases)

SPRINGFIELD, Illinois, July 17 -- Gov. JB Pritzker, D-Illinois, issued the following news release on July 16, 2021:

Governor JB Pritzker today announced the State of Illinois is partnering with the American Red Cross to host a Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC) in McLean County this weekend to help residents recover from recent storms and flash flooding. The MARC is an all-encompassing hub for residents to access disaster related relief services and information. The MARC brings together representatives from local and state agencies as well as essential support organizations.

"This administration is bringing together state and local resources to help the more than 52,000 impacted families recover from recent flooding in McLean County," said Governor JB Pritzker. "For those unable to visit this consolidated disaster relief center in person to receive assistance, we have made countless state services available online to help streamline the road to recovery."

The National Weather Service has determined that a slow-moving frontal system, and a series of weather disturbances moving along with it, resulted in two periods of heavy rain in McLean County between Sunday, June 25 and Monday, June 26. The first disturbance dumped 4-7 inches of rain within a four-hour period, while the second disturbance dumped an additional 2-4 inches within a five-hour period on the same area of the county. Total rainfall amounts for the 24-hour period ranged from 6-10 inches. Official damage assessments are underway to determine the eligibility of potential federal resources.

Residents affected by the recent storms can visit the MARC at Bloomington Junior High School, 901 Colton Avenue in Bloomington. The facility will be open on Saturday, July 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Sunday, July 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. McLean County has alternate transportation available through the Connect Transit Blue route.

State and local agencies offering assistance through the McLean County MARC include:

American Red Cross

Community Care Systems

City of Bloomington

City of Normal

Hope Crisis Comfort Dogs

Illinois Baptist Disaster Response

Illinois Department of Human Services

Illinois Department of Insurance

Illinois Emergency Management Agency

Lutheran Church Charities

Salvation Army

Online Services Also Available

Those who are unable to attend this two-day event, can visit the Ready Illinois website to find a list of resources available to those impacted by the disaster. If additional resources are needed, residents are encouraged to contact their local emergency management office or the American Red Cross for further assistance.
