ICYMI: DONALDS JOINS GOOD DAY ORLANDO

States News Service

The following information was released by the office of Florida Rep. Byron Donalds:

This morning,Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) joinedGood Day Orlandoon Fox 35 Orlando to discuss his leadership of H.R. 4494 "The Flood Insurance Relief Act," H.R. 2422 - "The CAPE Canaveral Act," an effort to reopen and modernize the launch pads at Cape Canaveral Space Launch Complex 37 (SLC-37), and H.R. 4922 "The DC CRIMES Act."

"The bill that myself, Senator Moody and Senator Scott are working on would be to provide tax credits, tax relief to people who have to engage in a flood insurance program":

"Well, when it comes to flood insurance overall, the thing we've been wanting to understand and hopefully with the Trump Administration, we get an opportunity to look at some of the actuarial models around the NFIP Program - the National Flood Insurance Program. The Biden Administration ignored Members of Congress with trying to understand that program and how they were coming out with the premium rates for not just Floridians, but all across the United States. The bill that myself, Senator Moody and Senator Scott are working on would be to provide tax credits, tax relief to people who have to engage in a flood insurance program. Obviously, that would help Floridians, but it would really help all Americans. The cost of flood insurance is not something that a lot of people can avoid because of where their homes are, but we should try to do is provide them relief when we can."

"The future of space is Florida...That's why it's so critical that we try to do everything to move the NASA headquarters here":

"Well, first, we do all the launches in the United States anyway. They all happen out of Kennedy Space Center - so that's number one. Number two, we're already knowing that SpaceX, they want to move their Starship platform here to Cape Canaveral. We're actually working with them and trying to get the Department of Defense to speed up their environmental audit so that they can rebuild launch pad 37. That's going to be critically important. But number three, the future of space is Florida. And with that comes new industries around tech and aerospace in the Sunshine State. So a lot of the people who go through our university system who are engineer, majoring in engineering, and by the way, we have the best university system in the country. They can stay in Florida, build their families in Florida, and we could really have a great new part of our economy around tech, around aerospace, in the great state of Florida. That's why it's so critical that we try to do everything we can to move the NASA headquarters here, or as much of NASA here as possible."

"I commend the President's efforts, doing everything he can to make Washington, D.C. safe":

"I will tell you D.C. is not safe. And, you know, I'm fortunate that I've not had to deal with any, any being victimized or anything like that while I've been in D.C., but there have been members of Congress who have been held up at gunpoint. They've been carjacked. They've been assaulted. We've had staff members who that's happened to them as well. We lost, one of the staff members was actually killed, a staff member from another Congressional office. But that is just the Members of Congress and their teams, the people in Washington, D.C., they're suffering the same issues as well. And so we have a responsibility with Washington being the federal enclave, that if the city of Washington, D.C., is not going to take crime seriously, then the President of the United States is gonna take it seriously. So I commend the President's efforts, doing everything he can to make Washington, D.C., safe. And I will tell you, this is something he talked about on the campaign trail. I spent a lot of time with President Trump. He talked about this on the campaign trail, whether you're a citizen of Washington, D.C., a tourist going to the nation's capital or somebody who serves the nation that's there all the time, it should be safe for everybody. Right now, that is not the case."
