Hurricane Dorian: Manatee County website provides detailed info

Herald-Tribune, The (Sarasota, FL)

Aug. 30--MANATEE COUNTY -- If you have a Manatee County address, you can find a lot of information about it with a new service on the county government's website.

At mymanatee.org/information, the county now offers a "resident information tool." Type your address and see details you may or may not already know about your home and neighborhood.

An address in Bayshore Gardens selected at random as an example revealed the following:

The resident's trash collection days are Monday and Thursday for household waste, Monday for recyclables and Wednesday for yard debris. Waste Pro is the responsible hauler.

The evacuation level for this home is A, meaning it is vulnerable to a storm surge of 11 feet. If ordered to evacuate, this household would find the closest shelter, Bayshore Elementary School, just 0.7 miles away. On flood zone maps, the property is in the lavender AE hazard area, meaning that it is at high risk and should have flood insurance.

Aside from Bayshore Elementary, children in this household would be in the attendance zones for Lee Middle School and Bayshore High.

The Sheriff's Office and the Cedar Hammock Fire Rescue District include this property in their jurisdictions.

Residents in this home are represented on the County Commission by Misty Servia, for which a link provides biographical and contact information. On Election Day, they may cast ballots at the Bayshore Gardens Recreation Center, the polling place for Precinct 421.

The nearest library is the South Manatee branch, 0.7 miles away.

The nearest bus stop is also 0.7 miles away, at Florida Boulevard and 14th Street West.

The nearest hospital, Blake Medical Center, is a six-mile trip.

The property is zoned RSF-6 for single-family residential. It last sold in 1996 for $57,000. It current assessed value by the property appraiser is $54,106.

In an announcement about the new feature, County Administrator Cheri Coryea encouraged residents to make a print-out of their information for future reference. "You can stick it on your frig and refer back to it later," Coryea suggested.

The service may also be useful for potential homebuyers wanting more information about a property.
