Hoyer Statement on the Senate Rejecting Repeal of the ACA Without A Replacement
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after legislation to repeal the Affordable Care Act without a replacement failed on the Senate Floor by a vote of 45-55, with seven Republican Senators voting against it:
"The Senate has now rejected both repeal-and-replace as well as straight repeal. It could not be more clear: the American people do not want Republicans to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, kick millions off their coverage, and increase health care costs for American families. Any further votes on this matter in the Senate would be pointless, and no substantially different option has been introduced, as the so-called 'skinny-repeal' plan is effectively another attempt at repeal without a replacement. I urge Republicans to end their dangerous and now-failed attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act and instead work with Democrats in good faith to improve the law."
