ASD symptoms may appear before the age of 3, and can, in some cases, last for a person's entire life. As the child reaches school age, communication and relationship difficulties may have a profound effect on the person's education, social interaction, and other areas. Because of this, those with autism may also encounter difficulties maintaining relationships with others, and understanding what might be expected of them in school and on the job.
The application process is open to anyone who has been diagnosed with autism (DSM-V), and (a) who is currently a high school senior who plans on attending college, or (b) who is currently attending a college, junior college, or university (including graduate school) who plans on continuing their education.
