House Takes New Approach to Shut Down ObamaCare

WASHINGTON D.C. - Today, U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 3762, the Restoring Americans' Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act with Representative Lynn Westmoreland's support. H.R. 3762 repeals the funding for individual portions of ObamaCare, such as: employer mandate, individual mandate, medical device tax, Cadillac tax, the Prevention and Public Health Fund, and the auto-enrollment mandate for large employers. H.R. 3762 also defunds Planned Parenthood for one year and redirects the funds to community health centers.

The bill is an alternative approach to traditional attempts to repeal ObamaCare. H.R. 3762 utilizes or uses a budget reconciliation process to eliminate funds from the healthcare law, which also reduces our deficit. Because of the unique provisions of the reconciliation measure, both the House and the Senate will have a chance to vote on repealing ObamaCare - where Minority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Democrats have previously denied Republican Senators the opportunity - before it heads to the President. In addition, the bill is filibuster-proof and only requires a simple majority of 51 votes to pass the Senate.

"Repealing these provisions cuts the heart out of ObamaCare and makes the remaining provisions incapable of functioning," stated Westmoreland. "Instead of voting to dismantle, defund, and break down ObamaCare for a 56th time, we are changing our tactics. Through the reconciliation process, Congress finally has a chance to send an ObamaCare repeal to the President's desk. I will continue to fight to repeal all provisions of ObamaCare and replace it with health care reform that put patients and Georgia families first."
