House Health Care Bill Fails to Deliver Needed Reform

WASHINGTON, March 23 -- LIBRE Initiative issued the following news release:

Today the House of Representatives is expected to vote on legislation that will repeal portions of the Affordable Care Act, while modifying and amending the law's provisions on Medicaid, and in other areas.

Daniel Garza, President of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

"The Latino community is being hurt by a health insurance law built on mandates and regulations that limit consumer choice and force up premiums and costs. In the years since the law passed, millions of Latinos have encountered growing out-of-pocket costs, limited choice of doctors, and poor health care outcomes due to a deeply flawed law.

We have long said that Congress and the president need to work together on reforms that put consumers - in consultation with their doctors - back in charge of their health care decisions. Real reform should curb health care costs by repealing costly mandates and regulations that do nothing to ensure better health care, and by encouraging competition, with consumers the real beneficiaries. Regrettably, this legislation does not go far enough to deliver those needed reforms. We are hopeful that Congress will listen to what the American people have been calling for over the last eight years, and approve legislation that actually repeals the failed Affordable Care Act, and replaces it with reforms that deliver clear benefits to the American people."
