Greensburg keeps taxes flat in 2020

Dec. 10--Greensburg passed a budget with no tax increase for the 12th year in a row.

The $12.8 million budget keeps real estate taxes at 25.05 mills, with a separate one-mill tax supporting the Greensburg Hempfield Area Library.

City Council approved the budget unanimously Monday.

Council also approved the purchase of two trucks and a skid steer loader to replace vehicles lost in an October fire at the city's public works garage on South Urania Avenue.

The city received $350,000 in insurance payments as a result of the fire and expects more once appraisals are complete, likely within a week.

Council approved paying $17,000 for the demolition of the public works garage, which was damaged beyond repair. Officials have yet to determine whether they will build a new facility on the same location, or move to a new spot that would allow a bigger building.

The 2020 budget is mostly the same as 2019's, with no major changes in expenses or revenue.
