Greenberg Traurig Expands Insurance Regulatory Practice With Addition of Two Shareholders

Targeted News Service (Press Releases)

SAN FRANCISCO, California, June 14 (TNSper) -- Greenberg Traurig, a law firm, issued the following news release:

Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, has strategically expanded its Insurance Regulatory Practice with the addition of two attorneys: Cynthia Borrelli and Michael J. Morris, who are joining as shareholders from Bressler, Amery & Ross, P.C.

Borrelli, who was the head of Bressler's Insurance Law practice group, focuses her practice on regulation and compliance for insurers, managed care entities, brokers, and trade associations in the property/casualty, life, and health care areas. She advises clients on property casualty, life, annuity, health care, managed care, disability, and reinsurance matters. Well versed on insolvency regulation, she often represents clients with contested insurance issues. She is based in Greenberg Traurig's New York and New Jersey offices.

Morris advises health and property casualty insurers, managed care providers, third-party administrators and insurance producers on regulatory issues. He also represents clients in state and federal courts and before administrative agencies, litigating insurance regulatory disputes. He is based in the firm's Charlotte, N.C., and New Jersey offices.

"Demand for legal representation on insurance matters cuts across all business sectors. Adding experienced attorneys such as Cynthia and Mike strengthens Greenberg Traurig's already extensive insurance practice," said Fred E. Karlinsky and Laura E. Evangelista, co-chairs of Greenberg Traurig's Global Insurance Regulatory and Transactions practice group. "Their deep experience in advising insurers, managed care companies and other insurance-related interests will enable the firm to better serve our clients."

Borrelli and Morris join Greenberg Traurig's highly ranked Insurance Practice. Chambers International cited the firm's state Insurance practice teams in its 2023 rankings released June 1.

"Greenberg Traurig isn't entirely new to me. I have worked with Tricia A. Asaro, co-chair of Greenberg Traurig's Health Care & FDA Practice, and Harold N. Iselin, co-chair of the firm's Government Law and Policy Practice, on many occasions," said Borrelli. "Joining the firm is a significant move for our team. Having access to ancillary practices such as tax, corporate, intellectual property and technology will allow us to provide more broad-based representation for our clients."

Among the representatives matters that Borrelli has handled, she facilitated various value-based risk transfer arrangements for managed care entities in New York and New Jersey; secured regulatory approval for a multistate/multi-affiliate acquisition of a major health insurer; and obtained approval for several HMOs to offer commercial and government funded products in New Jersey. She is an active participant in the National Association of Insurance Commissioners' conferences. A frequent author, she and Mike Morris recently co-authored a chapter covering risk transfer rules for health insurers in a book focused on U.S. health care laws.

Borrelli is currently a member of the National Conference Of Insurance Guaranty Funds' legal committee and is a member for the Federation of Regulatory Counsel's board of directors. She has also served on the legal committee for the National Association of Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Associations.

"Cynthia is an experienced insurance attorney, who is well-known in the tri-state area as she is active in the Insurance Council of New Jersey and the New Jersey Association of Health Plans," said David Jay and David W. Oppenheim, co-managing shareholders of the firm's New Jersey office which is in Florham Park. "The addition of her skills and knowledge base to our team allows us to better meet client demand in this critical practice area."

The expansion of the insurance practice is expected to continue with other team members joining shortly.
