GalaxE. Solutions plants flag in downtown Hartford; plans to hire hundreds of tech workers

Hartford Courant (CT)

Sep. 4--A New Jersey-based information technology company that works with the insurance and health care industries is establishing an innovation center in downtown Hartford and plans, the governor's office said, to hire hundreds of workers.

GalaxE. Solutions opened its innovation center ?-- Outsource to Hartford ?-- at 20 Church St., the "Stilts Building" on Saturday and intends to create new high-tech jobs and develop new training programs, focused on establishing Hartford as an "internationally recognized IT hub," the company said in a news release.

"We believe Hartford will be a leader in the development of digital solutions in the insurance and healthcare industries," Tim Bryan, GalaxE.'s chief executive, said. "Outsource to Hartford will position the city as a viable and desirable alternative for next generation IT solutions ?-- taking advantage of Hartford's strong corporate footprint, outstanding academic institutions and highly skilled motivated workforce."

A formal announcement is planned at noon in downtown Hartford.

The innovation center builds on the recent addition of India-based Infosys to downtown Hartford. Infosys has announced plans to hire 1,000 at its technology hub in Goodwin Square.

The hiring planned by GalaxE. also will ease fears of job losses downtown as People's United Bank acquires Hartford-based United Bank. United Bank has its corporate headquarters in Goodwin Square.

The innovation center will partner with local business, civic, community and non-profit organizations focused on growth and revitalization. GalaxE. also intends to develop academic partnerships and introduce curriculum to train new IT talent. The goal is to build the region's workforce in and around Hartford.

"In order to keep Hartford thriving in a technology-driven economy, it is critical to have an ecosystem that supports business innovation," Mark Boxer, Global chief information officer at Bloomfield-based health insurer Cigna, said. "We're very excited that GalaxE. decided to plant a flag here in the city. Their new innovation center and the jobs it will create will build on Cigna's commitment to position Hartford as a technology center of expertise and a premier hub for health care management expertise."
