Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce Issues Public Comment on FEMA Notice

WASHINGTON, Jan. 29 -- Keri Schmidt, president and CEO of the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce, Sugar Land, Texas, has issued a public comment on the Federal Emergency Management Agency notice entitled "Request for Information on the National Flood Insurance Program's Floodplain Management Standards for Land Management and Use, and an Assessment of the Program's Impact on Threatened and Endangered Species and Their Habitats". The Fort Bend Chamber appreciates this opportunity to provide comments on the October 12, 2021, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) posting related to floodplain management requirements and protection of threatened and endangered species under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

We urge that FEMA continue the practice of actively soliciting and considering public input on any potential NFIP floodplain management changes for local communities.

We have reviewed the comments submitted by the Fort Bend Economic Development Council and the Mississippi Valley Flood Control Association, both attached to this letter, and we support these comments, share these concerns, and encourage you to consider the information therein.
