Fla. CFO Patronis Legislative Update for February 14, 2024

TALLAHASSEE, Florida, Feb. 15 -- The Florida Department of Financial Services issued the following news release:

Consumer Protection (https://myfloridacfo.com/news/pressreleases/press-release-details/2023/12/20/cfo-patronis--florida-will-bar-taxpayer-support-of-media-censorship-companies). This legislation, among other items, bars state agencies from contracting with censorship companies like NewsGuard, which is a self-described media monitoring, technology company. Additionally, the legislation will empower users on third-party payment processors (like PayPal and Venmo) to avoid wrongfully paying taxes on certain transactions the IRS is targeting.

House Bill 939 was reported favorable in the House State Affairs Committee today.
