Fla. CFO Patronis Applauds Governor's Signing of Insurer Accountability Bill

TALLAHASSEE, Florida, June 1 -- Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis issued the following news release:

Florida Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis applauds Governor Ron DeSantis for signing Senate Bill 7052, Insurer Accountability. The legislation delivers more funding to improve the consumer helpline and mediation services provided by the Department of Financial Services (DFS).

CFO Jimmy Patronis said, "As your CFO, one of my top priorities is putting the policyholder first, and that's exactly what this legislation does. It will provide the department with nearly $4 million in additional funding, and more positions, to gain more support for our mediation program and the insurance helpline. Ultimately, this inflow of cash will allow the office to deliver relief to policyholders in the most efficient way, avoiding workload challenges, and bolstering mediation services. Thank you Governor DeSantis for putting the policyholder first, and signing this bill that will help our office work as efficiently as possible."

Insurance Consumer Advocate Tasha Carter said, "The allocated funding will increase the Department's capacity to assist Florida's insurance consumers, especially in the aftermath of a disaster. The additional oversight and accountability measures put in place by Senate Bill 7052 will ensure insurance companies are upholding Florida's insurance code and properly handling claims. During what can already be a stressful time, consumers should expect their insurance company to treat their claim fairly and handle it timely; SB 7052 does just that. Thank you to Governor DeSantis for ensuring Florida's insurance consumers receive the assistance needed as they go through the claims process."
