Calculation differences may arise when rounded amounts and percentages are summed automatically.

  • 1Including cash and cash equivalents

  • 2Operating retuon equity (operating RoE) measures the profitability of the Group by expressing the business operating result as a ratio of the capital employed.

  • 3The value is calculated using shareholders' equity before non-controlling interests, less the revaluation reserve and less hybrid bonds.

  • 4Proposed dividend

  • 5The calculation of this figure includes the proportional interest expenses for hybrid capital in 2018. The undiluted earnings per share equals the diluted earnings per share (in EUR).

Insuring more, responsibly

Dear Shareholders, Ladies and Gentlemen!

"We want to be a reliable partner for our stakeholders." Sometimes this is easier said than done. I am therefore all the more pleased that we were able to demonstrate our reliability once again in2021. With a more in premiums, profitsand engagement and with the presenta-tion of our new strategic programme forthe period until 2025, we are reinforcingthis objective.

We increased our premium volume by5.5% in financial year 2021, therebyexceeding the EUR 11 billion thresholdfor the first time, while also earning asolid pre-tax result of EUR 511.3 million. Our well-known strengths - diversity,long-term thinking, flexibility andcontinuous improvement of the existingmodel - make us resilient and made thismore in success possible. They helped us manage the effects of the ongoing pandemic. However, all of this is once again being put to the test by the current state of war in Ukraine. We have become even more closely united as a Group in the past two years and have proven ourreliability under difficult conditions. This isall the more important in extreme situa-tions such as those that currently exist in Ukraine. What matters at the moment is taking care of the people there, including our employees and customers. In addi-tion to the human suffering, the conflictand sanctions can be expected to have far-reaching economic effects thatare yet difficult to assess. We will alsoovercome this challenge together. Broaddiversification across markets and linesof business and local entrepreneurship promote stability and allow us to provide mutual support. Our decentralisedstructure allows our companies to react quickly with solutions that are custom-tailored to market needs - even in extreme situations.

Improved combined ratio, higher dividend

In spite of the major natural disasters thatoccurred in 2021, due to our compre-hensive reinsurance programme, which limited the net impact on our results toaround EUR 90 million, our combinedratio improved to 94.2%. This successwas due in part to sustainable efficiencyimprovements in our business opera-tions. The pandemic also had a positiveeffect. The reduction in road traffic led toa favourable claims development in

the motor line of business in 2021.
