Jan. 01--GREENSBORO -- A Burlington man has been charged with driving while intoxicated and other crimes following a fiery crash on NC Hwy 54.
Burlington Police said Dandre Kier Jacobs, 28, drove his Ford Expedition left-of-center of the road as he tried to pass a slower-moving vehicle near the crest of a hill.
His SUV collided head-on with a Nissan Altima, driven by a Burlington woman headed eastbound.
Officers arriving at around 11 p.m. found Jacob's SUV overturned and on fire. They discovered Jacobs, uninjured, a short distance away on Kilby St, police said.
The woman driving the Altima experienced non-life threatening injuries as a result of the collision and was transported by Alamance County EMS, according to the Burlington Police news release.
Police charged Jacobs with driving while intoxicated, driving while license revoked, exceeding the posted speed, passing violation and no insurance. He was arrested on scene.
NC Hwy 54 was completely blocked both directions between Collins Dr & NC Hwy 49 in Burlington for approximately one-and-a-half hours.
