FEMA mitigation specialists to answer home rebuilding questions

April 20--Crossroads residents building, rebuilding or repairing their homes after Hurricane Harvey can plan for the future and get questions answered starting Monday by Federal Emergency Management Agency mitigation specialists.

FEMA mitigation specialists and home improvement stores will team up Monday through April 28 to provide free information and tips on making homes stronger and safer.

In Victoria, the event will be at Home Depot, 6708 NE Zac Lentz Parkway from 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Tuesday through April 28.

"FEMA mitigation specialists will answer questions and offer tips and techniques to build hazard-resistant homes using proven methods that will prevent or reduce damage from future disasters," according to a news release from FEMA.

Most of the information and free literature provided will be geared to do-it-yourself work and general contractors. Some topics covered will include flood insurance, elevating utilities and rebuilding flooded and wind-damaged homes.

FEMA mitigation specialists will also be available at these locations:

* Fort Bend County: 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Tuesday through April 28 at the Lowe's, 3807 Farm-to-Market Road 1092 in Missouri City.

* Galveston County: 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Tuesday through April 28. at the Home Depot, 3200 S. Gulf Freeway in League City.

* Harris County: 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday through April 28 at the Home Depot, 10707 N. Freeway in Beaumont.

* Jefferson County: 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday through April 28 at M&D Supply, 4580 College St.
