Farmington Police: Drunken Driver Caused 2017 Double-Fatal Crash

Feb. 12--A Newington man faces manslaughter charges in a September head-on, drunken-driving crash that killed two people and critically injured a third, police said.

The charges for Edward Brozynski, 54, include two counts of second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, two counts of second-degree assault and one count of first-degree reckless endangerment, police said Monday. He was arrested Friday, remains in custody on $275,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Hartford Tuesday.

According to police, the crash happened on Route 6 in Farmington late on Sept. 14, when the Honda Accord driven by Brozynski went over the center lines and collided head-on with a 2014 Mazda3, which had four occupants.

Benoit Boislard and Rejean St. Pierre, both 66 and from Quebec, Canada, had been sitting in the back seat of the Mazda during the collision, police said at the time. They were taken to area hospitals, where they died.

The driver and front seat passenger of the Mazda also were injured. The passenger, Lisette Prince, was in critical condition at Hartford Hospital after the crash. The driver, Angelique Michaud, was treated at a hospital and released, police said.

Brozynski was listed in stable condition at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center after the crash.

The investigation showed that he was drunk at the time of the head-on collision, police said Monday.

His charges also include failure to keep right, illegal operation of a motor vehicle with minimum insurance, operation of a motor vehicle with an out-of-state plate and failure to use a seat belt.
