Farm Bureau to offer driver safety course

Jun. 4—The Washington County Farm Bureau is offering a driver safety class for area residents.

The class will be held from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Monday July 12, at the Washington County Fair Grounds in Dewey.

Drivers must attend the full course to receive certification. The Oklahoma state-certified class is open to everyone, not just Farm Bureau members and Farm Bureau-insured drivers. Out-of-county residents are welcome too.

The course will cover the many aspects of driver awareness and defensive driving, emergency response, rules of the road and safety issues. Beginning drivers are urged to attend, as well as older drivers who feel they may need a refresher course.

Those attending the class will receive a certificate for attendance and participation. In many cases, they also can get a substantial discount on their annual insurance premium from their insurance company for up to three years. For example, Farm Bureau offers a 5% discount on driver's liability insurance if policy insured's complete the course.

Everyone on a policy can take advantage of the class, especially the parents of beginner drivers are urged to attend.

The program also meets the needs of residents who have received a driving citation and must attend a certified driver safety course.

Cost of the class is $10 for Farm Bureau members, $40 for the first non-member and $10 for any additional family members. All material and handouts are included in this price.

During a short break each evening, refreshments will be provided by the Washington County Farm Bureau Women's Committee.

Registration and payment are requested in advance.
