Jan. 22--Honey Creek firefighters responded to a structure fire at 1 E. Brookside Drive, just off Carlisle Drive in southern Vigo County, around 5:30 a.m. today.
No one was hurt in the fire, which was contained to the attached garage. The house had some smoke damage and possible structural damage, said Tom High, Honey Creek Fire Department fire chief. The garage had extensive damage.
The cause remained undetermined as of noon today.
Carlisle Drive had to be closed for a few hours during rush hour. The house is located south of Honey Creek Middle School.
The home is currently without power and other utilities, and the residents cannot live there at this time, High said. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the family.
Brent Bocard, the home owner, said three family members live there and were home when the fire started, but no one was hurt, "not even the dog."
The fire might have started near a halogen light or exhaust fan in the garage, and insurance adjusters "are on their way today," Bocard said.
The family will be storing some of their items with a neighbor and also will stay overnight there. They may have to spend some time at hotels, Bocard said. The family hopes to be able to move back into the home.
