HAMILTON, Bermuda (AP) _ Everest Re Group Ltd. (RE) on Monday reported a fourth-quarter loss of $382.3 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.
The Hamilton, Bermuda-based company said it had a loss of $9.50 per share. Losses, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to $5.89 per share.
The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of $7.54 per share.
The reinsurance company posted revenue of $1.79 billion in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $1.97 billion.
For the year, the company reported profit of $103.6 million, or $2.53 per share. Revenue was reported as $7.5 billion.
Everest Re shares have risen 1 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Monday, shares hit $220.38, a decrease of 8 percent in the last 12 months.
