EDITORIAL: Food bank, Enid agencies work to keep children fed
Enid News & Eagle, Okla.Enid News & Eagle
Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma is working with several agencies in Enid to help keep children from going hungry this summer.
The food bank’s Summer Feeding Program started Monday and will continue through Aug. 7, 2026, at five locations in Enid. The program provides free meals for children 18 and younger.
Sites locally are divided into two categories: There are three congregate sites, which means meals must be eaten at the location, while two are grab-and-go sites, at which boxes of food containing up to 10 meals and snacks are provided to be taken home. The grab-and-go sites are not open daily.
The congregate sites and hours are:
• Denny Price Family YMCA/Hayes Elementary School, open 11 a.m. to noon weekdays at Hayes, 2102 Beverly Drive.
• Zoe Kids’ Cafe, open noon to 1 p.m. weekdays at 729 E. Maine.
• Tri-County Family Resource Center, open noon to 1 p.m. weekdays at 119 S. Grand.
The two grab-and-go sites are:
• Loaves & Fishes NW Oklahoma, open 10 a.m. to noonJune 5, June 19, July 10 and July 24 at 701 E. Maine.
• Shepherd’s Cupboard, open 9-11 a.m.June 1, June 15, June 29, July 13 and July 27 at 2418 W. Randolph.
Statistics show this is a needed program. In Garfield County, 16% of households are facing food insecurity, according to Lydia Kelley, director of Loaves & Fishes.
We hope that families in need take advantage of the opportunity.
