Driver was high, had no driver’s license during fatal Lower Wacker Drive wreck, police say

Jan. 13--A woman who caused a crash on Lower Wacker Drive that left a girl just weeks shy of her second birthday dead had no driver's license, no insurance and was high on drugs, Chicago police said.

Adreannia Donaldson, 29, was charged with felony aggravated DUI and given four traffic citations: failure to yield right of way, violation of child restraint law, driving an uninsured motor vehicle and having no driver's license, said Officer Jennifer Bryk, a police spokeswoman.

Donaldson has never been issued an Illinois driver's license, Bryk added.

Earlier, the DUI was a traffic citation, according to Bryk.

Donaldson was scheduled to appear Sunday afternoon at the Leighton Criminal Court Building on the felony charge.

The 23-month-old girl, Amaria Glenn, was not in a child seat, and was thrown from the car during the accident early Friday and died less than an hour later, officials said. She would have turned 2 on Jan. 29.

The 29-year-old was behind the wheel of a 2004 Mazda sedan that was traveling west in the first block of West Lower Wacker when it turned to head east around 1 a.m. and was struck by an SUV traveling east with the green light, police said. The Mazda then slammed into a wall.

Amaria, of the 7900 block of South Bishop Street in the Gresham neighborhood, was pronounced dead at 1:44 a.m. at Lurie Children's Hospital, the Cook County medical examiner's office said. An autopsy Saturday determined she died of multiple blunt force injuries from the crash, and her death was ruled an accident.

The woman charged and a 29-year-old man also in the Mazda were taken in serious condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said. There was no update on their conditions Saturday.

Four people in the SUV -- two women, 18 and 19, and two men, both 19 -- declined medical attention, police said.

Donaldson is scheduled to also appear in traffic court on Jan. 18 at 1 p.m.
