REHOBOTH -- One driver is dead and two people were taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital after two vehicles crashed Friday morning on Route 44, authorities said.
The crash took place in the area of 500 Winthrop St., drawing Rehoboth police and emergency medical personnel at about 7:45 a.m., according to Sgt. Norman J. Todd, who withheld identities pending notification of kin.
The driver was pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital, Todd said. Police, he said, were told that another passenger in the same vehicle sustained serious injuries.
The two people taken to the children's hospital were removed from a vehicle that ended up in the parking lot of an insurance agency across the street.
Route 44 in Rehoboth was closed for about two hours.
