Oct. 28--A single-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning sent an unrestrained toddler to the hospital while the driver was taken to jail.
Jill M. Sizemore, 32, of Walker, faces charges of second-degree wanton endangerment, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, failure to use child restraint, no seatbelt, failure to maintain insurance, driving too fast for road conditions, expired registration plates and receipt.
Knox County Sheriff Mike Smith said Deputy Mikey Ashhurst responded to the crash on KY-223 about a half-mile from U.S. 25E.
Ashurst reported the vehicle was upside-down in a ditch on the side of the road.
Sizemore, the alleged driver, lost control of the vehicle and hit the embankment, causing the car to flip over, according to the sheriff's office.
Inside the car was a 2-year-old child, trapped. Smith said that Ashurst was able to free the toddler, who was partially ejected -- its hands were pinned under the roof of the car.
Ashurst reported that the toddler was unrestrained in the passenger seat when the crash happened.
The child was treated at the scene by crew members with Knox County EMS, then flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
No official word on the child's condition was available at press time.
Sizemore was taken to Knox County Hospital, where she was treated and released.
After her arrest, she was jailed in the Knox County Detention Center, where she remains on a $2,500 cash bond plus monitored release.
She's slated for her first court appearance Monday.
