Dinsmore Highly Ranked as Bond, Underwriter’s Counsel in 2016

CINCINNATI, Feb. 24 -- Dinsmore and Shohl, a law firm, issued the following news release:

Dinsmore & Shohl LLP earned high marks, ranking 13th nationally as bond counsel, in the recently released statistics published by The Bond Buyer. Dinsmore also earned No. 1 rankings in Kentucky and Ohio for dollar volume and was first in Pennsylvania for the number of transactions. Thomson Reuters compiles transaction data for The Bond Buyer.

Nationally, Dinsmore completed 299 deals totaling $7.239 billion. The firm served as bond counsel on 103 issues totaling $2.863 billion to earn the No. 1 dollar volume ranking in Ohio. In Kentucky, Dinsmore earned the No. 1 dollar volume ranking by serving as bond counsel on 87 issues totaling more than $2.552 billion. In Pennsylvania, Dinsmore was first for the number of issues (79) and sixth for total volume of transactions ($908 million).

Other bond counsel highlights include:

- Fourth in the Southeast region for total volume of transactions ($2.670 billion). The Southeast region is comprised of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

- Fifth in the Mideast region for total volume of transactions ($3.438 billion). The Mideast region is comprised of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

As underwriter's counsel, Dinsmore ranked No. 1 overall in the Mideast region with 37 issues totaling $3.612 billion. Dinsmore also ranked second in Illinois with two deals totaling $1.778 billion.

"With the favorable interest rate environment, we continued to see a considerable number of refunding transactions, as well as new money financings, particularly in the health care area. The potential for tax law changes under the new administration had borrowers pushing to get their transactions closed by year-end," said Tom Wilson, the firm's Public Finance Department chair.

Dinsmore also ranked highly in many of the bond counsel sub-categories Thomson measures. Nationally, the firm ranked second for Nursing Homes Long-Term Municipal New Issues and fourth for both Single Family Housing and Solid Waste Resource Recovery transactions.
