IRVINE, California, Jan. 8 -- The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee issued the following statement by spokesperson Drew Godinich upon the news that Rep. Ed Royce, R-California, will not seek re-election:
"Facing strong, well-funded Democratic challengers, a historic investment in Orange County by the DCCC, and a failed Republican agenda of raising taxes on working families and trying to rip healthcare away from millions of Californians, Congressman Ed Royce's retirement is another sign of Democrats' growing momentum in 2018.
"In a district that Hillary Clinton won by eight points, Democrats are poised to win this Orange County seat and send someone to Washington who truly represents the values of Southern California."
Ed Royce was listed on the DCCC's retirement watch list in May.
