Crockett Celebrates ACA Healthcare Coverage for DACA Recipients

WASHINGTON, April 18 -- Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, issued the following news release on April 17, 2023:
On Thursday, April 13, the Biden Administration announced that the Department of Health and Human Services will propose a rule expanding eligibility that would allow Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients to enroll in health care coverage through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace and Medicaid. A 2021 survey of people with DACA found that 34 percent are living without any kind of health insurance, compared to ten percent of the total population. Now, hundreds of thousands of DACA recipients will have access to affordable health care, including the over 100,000 DACA recipients living in Texas.
"Thank you to the Biden Administration for doing the right thing and expanding access to the ACA Healthcare Marketplace to DACA recipients," said Rep. Crockett.
"This is an important step towards expanding health insurance coverage to all Texans, regardless of how much money they make or where they live. Our Texas DACA recipients are just as Texan as anyone else - and if the COVID-19 pandemic taught us anything, it's that public health can only be protected if every single American has access to good, quality healthcare.
"I'm thrilled we are one step closer to closing the coverage gap - now, let's finish the job and expand Medicare in Texas!"
