CRIST STATEMENT ON BIPARTISAN PASSAGE OF HURRICANE HARVEY RELIEF FUNDING
Congressional Documents & Publications
Congressman Charlie Crist (D-St. Petersburg) released the following statement on House passage of a bipartisan emergency disaster relief funding package in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. This package was passed by the Senate on Thursday and will now be sent to the President's desk to be signed into law. Additionally, this package raises the debt ceiling to avoid a catastrophic default, extends government funding through the end of the year to avoid a harmful shutdown, and provides a three month reauthorization of the National Flood Insurance Program that many Pinellas residents depend on to protect their homes. Due to the potential impact of Hurricane Irma to Pinellas County, Crist is currently in district assisting local officials and constituents with preparation efforts.
"I am grateful to my colleagues for this strong, bipartisan vote for hurricane relief after the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey - and in preparation for needs arising from Hurricane Irma. It also heads off the triple threat of a government shutdown, default on our debt, and expiration of the National Flood Insurance Program. I returned to Pinellas County yesterday to help our community prepare for the storm. We are all praying for the best but preparing for the worst. I am hopeful the bipartisan spirit on display this week will continue should Florida need significant help in the coming days. We are all Americans, and we are all in this together."
