County receives insurance report

Feb. 09--GIRARD -- The Crawford County Commission reviewed worker's compensation claims during its regular meeting Tuesday.

Ray Ryan of Ryan Insurance provided the commission with his first quarterly worker's compensation report. The report included the way worker's compensation is paid, requirements and the cost of claims. Employee names and other personal information was not included to insure employee privacy.

The commission also plans to review the worker's compensation procedure. The county currently pays employee wages until workers receive pay from worker's compensation, but those funds are not always paid back once worker's compensation is received.

Emergency Manager Jason VanBecelaere presented radio bids to the commission. The commission approved the purchase of new radios from TBS Electronics, which had the low bid. A local company submitted bids, but were approximately $50 higher per radio than TBS.

"We always try to go with a local company if we can, but when the bids are that much different, we have to go with the low bid," Commissioner Tom Moody said.

The commission also approved a tax roll correction for the year 2016 on a property in Franklin.
