Connected Home Pilot Takes Off with New Tech Partnership

LONDON, March 9 -- RSA Insurance Group issued the following news release:

Leading global insurer, RSA, has partnered with Hood Group in a connected home pilot programme designed to evaluate escape of water sensor technology and inform the development of new home insurance propositions.

Using a range of technology, the pilot will run over the next two months and will be supported by Lightwave, a smart home provider.

Kenny Leitch, global connected insurance director, RSA, explains:

"There is huge potential for insurers to help make our customers' homes safer and easier to monitor through connected devices. We want to help them prevent problems from happening and where better to start than seeing how we can minimise water damage. It's a major area of claims and generally a hugely distressing event for any homeowner to deal with. We're delighted to partner with Hood Group and use this pilot to prove the effectiveness of this technology, understand the costs and ensure we can develop a practical and affordable solution for our customers."

The test is being conducted in domestic properties running various household scenarios and simulating escape of water to determine the different uses of the technology, prove that sensors will report reliably and that systems can be shut down reliably and practically without interfering with the homeowners' lifestyles.
