WASHINGTON - Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) today met with Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Dr. Ben Carson to discuss North Carolina's ongoing recovery needs following Hurricane Matthew.
"Hurricane Matthew devastated communities already reeling from years of a stagnant economy. President Trump's policies are lifting our economy, and Secretary Carson is committed to working with me to ensure Robeson, Cumberland, and Bladen counties receive appropriate federal assistance to get families back in their homes following Hurricane Matthew," said Congressman Pittenger. "Together, we carefully reviewed the remaining, unmet needs as identified by local leaders."
Congressman Pittenger and Secretary Carson also discussed the vital need for full federal recognition of the Lumbee Tribe.
Congressman Pittenger has been working with Secretary Carson, House Leadership, Budget Director Mick Mulvaney, and other officials for more than a year to help bring federal disaster assistance to southeastern North Carolina. Nearly 98,000 homes and 19,500 businesses were damaged by Hurricane Matthew in North Carolina. To date, Congressman Pittenger has helped secure $1.65 billion in federal funding for recovery efforts.
