Columbia man injured in wreck, cited for multiple offenses

Jun. 9--An Adair County man was cited for several offenses after he wrecked his motorcycle in Metcalfe County on Monday morning.
At approximately 5:15 a.m. Monday, the Metcalfe County Sheriff's Office was notified of a single-vehicle, injury collision on Nobob Summer Shade Road approximately 2.5 miles southwest of Summer Shade, according to a news release from Metcalfe County Sheriff Lonnie Hodges.
Deputy Trevor Morrison responded to the scene. Preliminary information indicates that Alex J. Howard, 40, of Columbia, was operating a 1999 Yamaha motorcycle westbound on Nobob Summer Shade Road when it exited the roadway off the opposite shoulder. The motorcycle then traveled down a short embankment and came to rest on its side, the release stated.
Howard was removed from the scene by Barren-Metcalfe EMS and transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital and admitted.
Investigation revealed that Howard was under the influence of drugs at the time of the collision. Due to injuries from the collision, Howard was cited to Metcalfe District Court for the following charges: possession of a controlled substance, first offense (heroin); operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs, first offense; no motorcycle operator's license; failure of non-owner to maintain required insurance, first offense; no registration plate; and no registration receipt, according to the release.
