WASHINGTON — The Gunn Memorial Library, 5 Wykeham Rd., will host Bill Liska and Kim Perlotto to discuss their book, "The Eighth Connecticut Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War," at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 29, at the American Legion Hall, 6 Bryan Memorial Plaza.
The Eighth Connecticut Infantry, one of the longest-serving Union volunteer regiments in the Civil War, saw action throughout the Eastern Theater, from Burnside's expedition in North Carolina to the battles at Antietam, Fredericksburg, Cold Harbor and Petersburg and campaigns throughout Virginia.
The authors draw on soldiers' letters and diaries for this first-ever history of the Eighth Infantry, which chronicles four years of combat service, with maps newly created from historical accounts.
Participants are asked to register in advance.
The book details the infantry's wartime experience and honors the combat service of those who served in the Eighth Infantry, preserving their story.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing courtesy of the authors.
Bill Liska is a retired attorney with a career as a counsel in the title insurance industry. He lives in Wethersfield.
