Center for American Progress Issues Statement on Repeal of Affordable Care Act

WASHINGTON, July 28 -- The Center for American Progress issued the following statement by President and CEO Neera Tanden after efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act failed:

"Every version of Senate Republicans' health care repeal efforts would have left family members, friends, and neighbors without care; sent premiums through the roof; and restricted women's access to care. The American people have sent a message loud and clear to their senators: Repealing the ACA is completely untenable.

"Senate leadership has lost all credibility that it can legislate responsibly. The text of the 'Health Care Freedom Act' was released mere hours before a vote in the dead of night. Now is the time for Republican congressional leadership to abandon their failed efforts to repeal the ACA and work across the aisle to increase coverage, lower premiums, and create a better health care system for all Americans."
