Carrizozo woman killed in highway vehicle crash north of Corona

Dec. 31--A single vehicle crash in Torrance County resulted in one fatality.
New Mexico State Police investigated the crash, which occurred on U.S. 54 near mile post 172 north of Corona on Dec. 30 at approximately 6:15 p.m.
Initially, investigators learned a 2005 Ford F-350 driven by a 48-year-old man from Melrose, New Mexico was traveling northbound on U.S. 54 when for unknown reasons, the truck went off of the road and rolled.
The driver of the truck sustained unknown injuries. He was transported to Albuquerque by ambulance and according to NMSP. His condition is currently unknown.
A passenger in the truck named Enid Miller, 77, of Carrizozo, was ejected and sustained fatal injuries. Miller was pronounced dead on the scene by the Office of Medical Investigator.
According to NMSP, investigators suspects alcohol was a contributing factor to the crash and the driver and passenger may not have been wearing seat belts at the time of the wreck.
The driver of the vehicle will not be identified at this time, according to NMSP.
The crash is still under investigation by the New Mexico State Police Uniform Bureau and the New Mexico State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit.
New Mexico State Police will conduct sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols, as well as registration, insurance and driver's license checkpoints in all New Mexico counties in January 2020, as part of the state's ENDWI campaign in New Mexico.
