Carmen Frances: Democratic socialism

Staff WriterMohave Valley Daily News

Editor: For the people who abhor the U.S. brand of socialism, it is called Democratic Socialism. This is what your taxes pay for and as you will see, all the departments listed are a benefit to We the People, no matter what your age, skin color, sexual orientation, religion, political preference, healthy, disabled or any other physical description that I may have forgotten.

Programs that function as Democratic Socialism include the Department of Agriculture, Amber Alerts, Amtrak, public beaches, public busing, business subsidies, Census Bureau, Central Intelligence Agency, federal student loans, the court system, dams, public defenders, disability insurance. Also, Department of Energy, Environmental Protection Agency, farm subsidies, Federal Bureau of Investigation, the FCC and the FDA. FEMA. Fire departments, garbage collection, health care, public housing, the Internal Revenue Service.

Public landfills, public libraries, Medicare, Medicaid, the U.S. Military, state and national monuments, public museums, NASA, National Weather Service, National Public Radio, public parks, PBS, the Peace Corps, police departments, prisons and jails. Also public schools, the Secret Service, sewer systems, snow removal services, Social Security, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (food stamps), public street lighting.

Also Department of Transportation, United States Postal Service, vaccines, veteran healthcare, welfare, the White House, Women, Infants and Children program and state zoos.

Please note all the departments that our current president is gutting in order to save the money for his already rich friends. This is where your tax money goes or has been going. Congress who is supposed to be in charge of the purse has been MIA for the past several weeks. Speaker Johnson has sent the House Reps home for vacation.

The Tuesday, Nov. 4 election is just a sample of what the democrats hold in store for 2026 mid-term election. Please join us in reclaiming our democracy.
