CareSource names new top executive

Dayton Daily News (OH)

Jun. 25--Dayton-based CareSource just named a new executive to its leadership team.

Devon Valencia is the new chief information officer for the insurance company, which is headquartered downtown and manages over half of Ohio Medicaid plans.

Valencia previously spent 16 years with Blue Shield of California -- a $20 billion company with four million members -- and worked most recently as the vice president of enterprise program delivery, applications and Medi-Cal technology, according to CareSource.

"As we think about growth and innovation, our ability to leverage data and technology is critical," Erhardt Preitauer, president and CEO of CareSource, said in a statement. "Devon has the unique skill and expertise to help us use technology to bridge the gap between the transactions of health care and true wellness."

In her role at CareSource, Valencia will lead all aspects of information technology and informatics within the organization, which handles a massive amount of data.

The insurer has nearly 2 million members in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, West Virginia and Georgia. As of June 2018, the insurer had more than 40,000 provider contracts and recieved about 100,000 claims a day.

CareSource stated that Valencia holds a bachelor's degree in business finance from the University of Pacific -- Eberhardt School of Business and has completed the executive program in leadership Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

Valencia is also president on the board of directors for the Center for Violence-Free Relationships and was named one of the 50 Most Powerful Women in Tech from the National Diversity Council in 2016.
