CAHP Urges Congress to Oppose Graham-Cassidy-Heller-Johnson Proposal

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Sept. 22 -- California Association of Health Plans issued the following news release:

The California Association of Health Plans today sent a letter to the California congressional delegation opposing the Graham-Cassidy -Heller-Johnson proposal, which makes major changes to the Affordable Care Act that will result in adverse consequences for Californians and people across the country.

Below are excerpts from the letter:

"The California Association of Health Plans, representing 49 public and private organizations that collectively provide health coverage to more than 28 million Californians, opposes the Graham- Cassidy-Heller-Johnson proposal...

"The proposal will have real consequences on consumers because it does not sufficiently stabilize the individual market, reduces key consumer protections, and does not eliminate the tax on health insurance premiums and benefits. Finally, the proposal makes significant cuts to Medicaid and other subsidies that help ensure millions of Californians have access to health care coverage. California is disproportionately impacted by these cuts.

"While our current health care system can be improved, we should first work together to stabilize our markets and provide certainty for the millions of Californians served by Medi-Cal. Because Graham Cassidy fails to do this, the California Association of Health Plans must urge members of the Senate and the House of Representatives to vote no."
