Buffalo County has received a $32,399 dividend check through its participation in the Nebraska Intergovernmental Risk Management Association (NIRMA) pooling program.
The dividend was part of a $1 million distribution shared with 95 eligible Nebraska counties and county-associated agencies who participate in the NIRMA II pool during NIRMA's annual membership meeting on Oct. 24 in Kearney.
With this latest distribution, Buffalo County's own dividends from NIRMA have reached $1,127,348 in total since it joined in 1988.
NIRMA issues dividends based on its strong financial standing, as aided by the members' ongoing loss prevention efforts.
This marks the 39th time since 1991 and the 30th consecutive year the program has been able to return funds.
Formed by 32 counties in 1988, NIRMA/II is Nebraska's first governmental risk management and self-insurance program.
It is owned and governed by the 85 member counties and 34 county-associated public entities it now serves. In addition to providing affordable coverage and comprehensive risk management and loss prevention services, the program has now returned a cumulative total of nearly $28 million to its members, directly benefiting local property taxpayers.
