BRIEF: Yakima woman in car stopped for elk injured in rear-end crash

July 30--MORTON -- A Yakima woman was injured in a rear-end crash on U.S. Highway 12 Friday night when the vehicle in which she was riding stopped for an elk and was struck by a pickup truck.

Nicole J. Beaudoin, 35, of Seattle, was driving a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee west on U.S. Highway 12 at 9:47 p.m. about 35 miles east of Morton when she stopped for an elk in the roadway, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Ignacio L. Sanchez, 59, of Yakima, who was driving a 2011 Ford F-150, also westbound, struck the Jeep from behind, injuring Beaudoin's passenger, Jessica V. Jimenez, 25, also of Yakima.

Jimenez was taken to Morton General Hospital, according to a State Patrol news release. An update on her condition was not available, but she was not admitted to the hospital, a nursing supervisor said Saturday.

Another passenger in Beaudoin's vehicle, Paul E. Knollman, 35, also of Seattle, was uninjured. Beaudoin and Sanchez also were not injured.

Sanchez was cited for following too closely and for no insurance, the news release said. All involved were wearing seat belts, and drugs or alcohol were not factors in the crash.
