Jan. 22--The driver of a Chevrolet Impala suffered minor injuries Monday after he ran a red light and crashed into a tanker on Houston Highway, police officials said.
Pedro Martinez, 37, of Victoria, was headed west in the outside lane in the Impala about 11:40 a.m. in the 5900 block of Houston Highway near the Zac Lentz Parkway loop, said Sgt. Billy Bernard, of the Victoria Police Department.
Martinez ran a red light and crashed into the tanker, lodging his vehicle under the tanker.
The tanker was turning left from the Zac Lentz Parkway feeder road toward the Victoria Regional Airport when the wreck happened. The truck driver, Carl Bartek, 59, of Caldwell, had a green light.
Martinez was taken to Citizens Medical Center with minor injuries. Bartek suffered no injuries.
Martinez was issued two citations -- one for running a red light and the other for having no vehicle insurance, Bernard said.
