BRIEF: Toomey statement on his health care bill vote
Sentinel, The (Carlisle, PA)
July 26--Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) issued the following statement Tuesday afternoon regarding the procedural vote to begin debate on the health care bill:
"I am pleased that the Senate will begin debating the repeal of Obamacare's failing health care system. Since 2013, Obamacare premiums are up 120 percent in Pennsylvania and 40 percent of our residents are limited to one insurer on the exchange. Further, Medicaid is fiscally unsustainable as its costs continue to grow faster than our economy.
"I voted to open debate on reforming our health care system because we cannot continue on the current path without disastrous consequences. Today, we are one step closer to replacing Obamacare and putting Medicaid on a sustainable trajectory to ensure it will be available for future generations. Over the coming days, senators on both sides of the aisle will be able to offer ideas and amendments. I look forward to reviewing these offerings and to working with any of my colleagues who support moving towards a consumer-driven health care system."
