BRIEF: Study: Connecticut premiums could rise 35 percent
Hour (Norwalk, CT)
March 09--Connecticut could see premiums for individual health insurance increase 35 percent or more by 2021, according to a new study, while dodging "catastrophic" hikes of 90 percent or more predicted for some states like New Jersey, New Hampshire and Texas.
The think tank Covered California issued predictions for health insurance on a state-by-state basis, factoring in normal inflation in medical costs as well as the impact of healthy people forgoing coverage after the federal government scrapped the individual mandate to have insurance.
New York's insurance premiums could jump by half over the next three years, Covered California calculates.
California and Connecticut are among several states where lawmakers are weighing whether to create a state law requiring health insurance for residents.
