BRIEF: Rep. Bobby Scott to hold health care forum Tuesday night
Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk, VA)
May 26--Rep. Bobby Scott is hosting a town hall session in Hampton on Tuesday night to talk with constituents about Republican legislation to replace the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.
The Newport News Democrat, a strident opponent of the GOP effort, said he'll present an overview of a new Congressional Budget Office study that estimates 23 million more people eventually would be uninsured if the legislation becomes law. The GOP bill has passed the House and been sent to the Senate, where it is expected to be rewritten.
Scott has supported Obamacare but wants more dramatic changes. He favors replacing private health insurance with single-payer health care system known as "Medicare for All."
The 90-minute town hall is open to the public and begins at 6:30 p.m. at Aberdeen Elementary School, 1424 Aberdeen Road. The 3rd District that Scott represents includes northern sections of Chesapeake and Suffolk, the southern portion of Norfolk and part of Hampton, as well as all of Portsmouth, Newport News, Franklin and Isle of Wight County.
